FCCB--Spotlight Sunday Feature and Guest Designer

Happy Memorial Day Crafty Friends. What are you doing today? We will be going over to my in-laws house. My sweet and wonderful FIL lost his battle with brain cancer on Thursday...so close to Memorial Day. We will miss this incredible man. Now, Memorial Day has a little different meaning to our family.

So I was so excited that yesterday Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Board did a Spotlight Feature on me (Sunday 27th) because I won a challenge a month ago for "Things that Go." challenge #108. Today, I have a Guest Designer Spot and a card I made for Memorial Day featured.

So, here is the card I created for FCCB that I wanted to share with you. For me, Memorial Day is remembering. Those loved ones we lost, no matter how... for remembering those who have served in the Armed Forces (like my wonderful Ret. Lt. Col. Brother-in-Law) who protect our freedoms and Country.

Details:

The card base is 4.5 x 6.5. I used Ashlynn's Alphabet to cut the paper into the blue star square and the red/creme striped rectangle to cover card base. (sized with my gypsy)

I then typed words commonly used for Memorial Day onto the computer (I had about 20 words) and then just repeated the words all the way down the page. Printed it out (Times Roman and 12 font size)onto white cardstock. I also used the word "Remember" and printed out onto cardstock to ink/punch out later.

I used the star shape from Independence Day and cut with red cardstock at 3" and then the white word printed cardstock at 2.75. Then, inked using Tim Holtz Tea Dye and adhered to the red star.

The eagle is from Car Decals (believe it or not) and I had done that last year and had it sitting in my box of finished dye cuts. So, I think I did that at 3." I cut that 4 different times and pieced it together to get the eagle look I wanted. I cut in cream, grey and gold and brown. I used the tiny negative pieces to piece together the face. One of the things I love about car decals is piecing together the negatives.

I used the Postal red, white, blue Twinery twine. and a silver star brad on the front. Punched out "Remember" with an EK Success punch and inked with the Tea Dye ink.

Hope you enjoy, thank you for stopping by and enjoy your day! And thank you to those who have served our Country to preserve our freedoms. We as a family are remembering you "Da" today too.

Hello Crafty Friends. I was going to stay off the computer today just because I'm emotionally drained after telling my kiddos about their Grandfather not being with us much longer from the brain tumor. But, something kept nagging me to check
Emma's website
My Creative Time.

Imagine my surprise when I found out I won for a LO I did for the spelling bee my daughter won.

So thank you soooo much Emma for making me smile and brightening a difficult day. Go check out her website and if you haven't ever used any of her fabulous stamps...you need to :)

Just a quick note...

Hello Crafty Friends. So sorry I've been away. As much as I've tried the last 2 weeks to think creatively, I cannot right now. We were told 2 weeks ago that my sweet and incredible Father-in- Law might only have a few weeks left with us due to suffering from a terminal brain tumor. This week, we are on borrowed time with him and each moment is precious we can spend with him. Hospice thinks it could be any time.

I might not be crafting this week but...I can promise I have one special secret project that I will be sharing with you for Memorial Day. So check back.

As a side note...time, family and love is precious and priceless. Take the time to tell those you love special little things you may have been putting off. I am so glad I had the chance to tell my FIL while he was still aware enough to understand..."Thank you....thank you for raising your son the way that you did because he is a wonderful Husband, Father and Man and it is all because he is a reflection of the man my FIL is."
Just take that extra time this week to tell someone how they are special to you. :)

A Scrapbook Layout for My Creative Time and BBTB2

Happy Cinco de Mayo and thanks for stopping by Okscrappinmama. I really like doing scrapbook layouts AND...I need to get caught up on the scrapbooks. My dd is in 4th grade and in Feb. she was one of 4 Fourth Graders and and 4 Fifth graders to compete in the school spelling bee.
Guess who won?? Yep!! My little fourth grader!! First time in 5 yrs a fourth grader has won it.

Challenges:
So, Emma at My Creative Time every 2 weeks on Monday will have "Scrappy Monday Layout Challenges. I thought it was the perfect time to enter a scrapbooking challenge AND get a layout done. By Sun 5/13

Also, at Bitten By The Bug 2--ladybug or bumblebee They are having a challenge to do a project with a ladybug or bumblebee using any cartridge). This seems the perfect thing to enter for the bumble bee. By 5/6

Details:

I actually did a double 12 x 12 LO. Just didn't show the 2nd page because it is the same paper but am attaching the Winners Certificate on the other page.

(These are directions for just ONE 12 x 12 page) Using Gypsy and Expression

Started out with black 12 x 12 cardstock. then using the rectangle from Ashlynn's Alphabet cut the cute little yellow dot bumble bee paper 6x11.75. Then with yellow cardstock cut(3) 9 x 3.33 rectangles from same cart. The tag is cut at 4.75 x 2.61 from TBBM in the bumble bee paper 4x and then 4x in black so I'd have some thickness for the tag when gluing bee tag on top of black tag. For the tags in the corner, I cut a little off the length because I wanted them shorter.

Finally, the wording is from Nates ABC's at 1.1" and grouped/welded together. Cut those 2x times to glue together for some paper thickness. The words that won the spelling bee on the tag in the corner are sticker letters from stickapottomus. I used eyelets on the tags, white organza and a yellow button with black twine in the holes. Twine on the corner tags too.

Bee cut from Create a Critter at 2" and the face was hidden so I could stamp a face from Peachy Keen Critter faces in black momento ink.

I had so much fun doing this layout--Thanks Emma for the reason to kick me into gear!! I plan on doing more on you challenges.

Thanks for letting me share everyone and have a super weekend.
